OUR STORY
Since its incorporation as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 1998, the San Carlos Sister City Association has been dedicated to fostering global understanding through meaningful people-to-people connections.
More than just a partnership between cities, SCSCA is a community of volunteers, families, students, and supporters who believe that lasting friendships can bridge cultures, inspire future generations, and create a more connected world.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to strengthen the bond between San Carlos and communities around the world by creating opportunities for cultural exchange, education, and friendship. Through student exchanges, community events, and international partnerships, we encourage curiosity, broaden perspectives, and celebrate the traditions that make each community unique.

OUR SISTER CITIES
Omura, Nagasaki, Japan
SCSCA’s most successful and enduring partnership began with Omura, Nagasaki, Japan, recommended by the Japanese Consulate in San Francisco. Interest was mutual from the start: the mayor of Omura and his delegation visited San Carlos, planting a cherry tree in City Hall Park to mark the beginning of the relationship.
SCSCA and Omura soon launched a reciprocal student exchange, sending four San Carlos high school students to Japan each summer while hosting four Omura students in return. This enriching program paused during COVID-19, but resumed in the summer of 2024.
